In the December CC, IJ said re a China deal:

And so, I think there's an opportunity to try to finish within the month...next month. If we miss on that it could stretch another few months.

Randall .... didn't see the interview on CNBC tonight .... but

one would suspect (one of us here) that T? and others will have to eventually capitulate, should they want to remain competitive.

Supporting 10 million users means that 10 million will follow ... and probably shortly after the support is available. He also said, or Sulpizio (sp) stated in BOA conference notes (saw here somewhere) that the growth thereafter would be "exponential" ... like it, like it. So, if this begins in earnest next year... we should be able to expect 4 to 5 years (or more?) of great growth in/out of China. IJ has repeatedly said "the next 10 years look really exciting" ... that was 1999.

Actually, I listened to the whole call, too. I didn't sense an imminent settlement with China. IJ was asked directly and he said that he'd be 'eternally disappointed' if it didn't happen by the middle of the year. So ... it seemed as a matter of when .... though, he knew it was close, I'm sure.

Dr. J did say that there was a major ASIC deal in the works .... and I thought I heard 'chuckles of laughter' when the management team was asked about Nokia..... Q said that they were still trying to discuss. So who's left ... MOT, ERICY (they hinted in their press release re earnings, that they were securing all the parts needed for a 'solid' 2000. CDMA? or TDMA?)

This latest development might hasten an agreement with NOK, if they are having the # of problems reported w/their own chipsets. Can NOK afford to leave China alone to the others?

Looks good here out. Can't imagine a much better place to be right now - I expect ups/downs, but overall we're doing well.

regards,

metman

<<Did anyone else take notice of him saying that other carriers not currently using CDMA will be soon?>>

Yes, I heard that too. I thought that was the most important sentence of the interview. I wish I was conducting the interview. I would have followed up on that comment.

Randall, Yes it was pretty clear to me this paves the way for any/all potential CDMA carriers in China to deploy.

Of course, I don't see how this news will correct the Q2 slump?? <VBG>
