Christian, the demand for nicotine is worldwide. It is amazing the number of foreign physicians (and nonphysicians) who smoke.

Short answer: no.

Long answer: The World Health Organization (I first typed this as "the WHO" and I did not want anyone to think Roger Daltry was behind cleaning up the world's health) is working on projects to try to limit cigarette smoking among people in many nations. There are links to these projects on the internet. Chief among the tools used for smoking cessation is nicotine substitution. Other than Singapore, which bans, public gumchewing, the demand for the product is large and will grow. If one does research on the health policies of Scandinavian countries, the governments have already started policies that encourage "substitute" methods. Asian countries are waking up to the hazards of smoking and considering incorporating or have incorporated such policies.

The nicotine gum market is indeed increasing and GumTech will begin first with Swedish Match's distribution in 140 countries (they are a privatized former state-run tobacco company that has recently divested their cigarette business , they own the "Redman" label, among others). The company has channels of distribution and a long history so that will not be a problem for the joint venture. SWMAY is also flush with cash (big surprise for a tobacco company).
