chalu, it has already been established, through confession, that those strings were pulled by Ben Barnes, a democrat, ex-lt.Governor, who lost his next election because of being involved in an illegal land scheme. No one asked him to do so. Do you not wonder why a political opponent would do something like that? If it had been up to GW's dad, he would not have served at all, unless the situation had required more combat pilots. There was very little air to air combat in Nam, and that was over very early in the conflict. From then on, the air missions were against ground targets, only.

McCain served his country but, got himself shot down, and did what was necessary to survive. No one could blame a man for doing that but, the medals were given for, the one and only reason, that he was a POW, not because of distinguished combat service.

If you want to denigrate the contribution of the National Guard in the time of war, tell that to the men of the 36th Infantry Division who hit the beaches at Anzio and Salerno in WW2. Most of them are dead now, but you would still have a real fight on your hands from those old codgers that are left. --haqi
