It's a long ugly story. If you're interested, go to the rambus thread and look for posts by bilow, from around August, and the responses to his posts.

It won't be fixed soon - 3 RIMMs is an achievable max under perfect circumstances, but that's not really good enough for low cost, mass production products. There should be enough reserve for 4 or 6 RIMMs in a server class product, without adding a hub (and all of the delays inherent in such an architecture).
