LindyBill, I think you hit the nail on the head and summarized the situation much better and more succinctly than I did in my post. Your summary of HLIT's and JDSU's relationship to each other and the end user is also right on target. I think you are right about HLIT being in constant danger from competition. In this regard, JDSU is in better shape, as they are definately seen as the "go to" guys and near sole supplier for a number of components.

Each CC, the analysts ask HLIT management about the supply of optical components. Each quarter, the CFO says they're keeping a close watch on it and trying to qualify other vendors. This last CC, when asked this question, the CFO kind of chuckled and said it keeps getting harder and harder to find new sources of components. I think he was referring to JDSU's purchase of E-TEK.
