NEW YORK, Feb 2, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- SuSE, a leading international
Linux company, and Compaq Computer Corp., announce an expanded
partnership today to provide call center support for SuSE's
distributions of the Linux OS running on Compaq's Alpha and Intel
products.

With this announcement, Compaq brings the power of one of the best
worldwide service organizations to the SuSE Linux customer base.
Compaq's Customer Services organization serves hundreds of thousands of
customers internationally and has service organizations in more than
100 countries. SuSE will directly train Compaq's technical support
staff in the specifics of SuSE Linux, with customer problems escalated
to SuSE for resolution when required. In addition to handling the
service calls requiring a highly technical understanding of SuSE Linux,
SuSE will also provide 24/7 and onsite engineering coverage to Compaq
for certain classes of support incidents.

"These new services combine Compaq's worldwide services expertise and
capabilities and our hardware and networking experience with SuSE's in
depth knowledge of Linux and open source software," says Peter Mercury,
Vice President and General Manager, Customer Services, Compaq Computer
Corporation. "Compaq customers will receive all the benefits of our
companies' combined experience providing Linux on the Alpha and Intel
platforms worldwide." "SuSE is delighted that Compaq is supporting our
Linux products on Intel and Alpha platforms," says Stefan Wintermeyer,
SuSE's Director of Worldwide Support. "Compaq Alpha Systems are popular
in the Linux community for those that require the high performance of
64-bit technology. We look forward to a continuing relationship in
supporting Compaq's customers who prefer SuSE Linux."

SuSE's current release for the Alpha platform, SuSE Linux 6.3 for
Alpha-AXP, features over 1200 applications. SuSE Linux 6.3 for Intel
includes 1500 applications. Alpha and Intel users can benefit from the
unified "look and feel" of SuSE's installation and administration tools
across platforms. A release on PowerPC is planned for this spring.
