Am I stupid to want to wait the extra week for the boxed version of the PIII 733?

Are you sure it will be just one week?

If it buys you a little peace of mind and you can afford to wait for the machine get the boxed CPU. The price is about the same and you get the three year Intel warranty...$30 less for the OEM?

I have never heard of a bad CPU although I am sure they exist. Chances are if there is a problem it would show up in the first couple of months and the assembler would take care of it. (you should get some kind of warranty from the local shop) If you overclock there is a good chance you could damage the CPU (overclocking would void the warranty).

If you want the machine now and you want to save a few dollars get the OEM CPU and you will most likely never know the difference. Perhaps you could talk the guy into a 2? year warranty on the CPU covered by the local shop.

For the $30 difference plus the longer warranty, I would wait a week. Have fun with the new computer
