russn: Re: "Where did the information about dell needing 4k people come from???"

From Kemble's Post on Tuesday 2/1/00: "Read somewhere that the average institution buys for a nine months..I believe many are getting ready for the first sign of W2000 being a boom...and not just the institutions..Robert Williams told us it "would be an outstanding year"...DELL hiring 4000 people in the third quarter...What for?"

I went back and pulled up this link from 12/17/99 from Austin 360.
3,000 people will be hired in Nashville, TN.

"The expansion will raise Dell's work force in Tennessee to 3,000 by the middle of next summer, up from about 2,200 now, according to the company."

This link is from the Tennessean, from 1/11/00.
1,000 people will be hired in Lebanon, TN.

"The issue of 1,000 jobs was the driving engine to determine if we were getting true value from the bond issue," Smartt said

Kemble can probably clarify specific numbers and the timing. So many employment numbers have been kicked around between Austin and Nashville. But that is a start! Leigh
