<I hear the chant around the Intel main offices these days is...
Please let us get to Willy...
Please let us get to Willy...
Dear God, please let us get to Willy...
Let Willy run fast and yield well...>

That's not what I hear.

I hear:

Free Willy...Free Willy...Free Willy.

But the doctors are saying that Willy is too sick to be out there in the wild with Athlons ready to pounce.

The Coppermine, OTOH, continues to have errata added to the list and yet more tweaks are due on April 7th, so as to work out more problems.

I hope I will not end up with the ones that need several attempts to boot. <g>

But if you go with the last one of the previous generation, you don't benefit from the the architectural improvements (on chip L2), and you get a lot more heat, which in itself can be a problem.

I don't know how widely it is recognized, but it is becoming more and more common that the cause of death on a PC is a dead CPU fan, which can damage the CPU, and caused a lot of crashes until you find out what's going on.

It seems that a lot of the fans for socket 7 CPUs were not the highest quality, and now that they aged, the CPU fans are dying, bringing the whole systems down with them.
