Iridium has an ad in the business section of today's New York Times advertising $100 off the Motorola 9505, "our newest handheld satellite phone, now just $1395". The text talks about being able to talk anywhere and the fine print mentions such niceties like "optional cellular cassettes sold separately". Of course there is no mention of rate plans, but it is one more ad than I've seen for G*.

Long and lurking (mostly)
