Rick, that was deep. Welcome back, I was worried you had wandered off never to be found.

Pretty good advice on Guru's. I will say this about V, he has an unbelievable ability to see how the market will react. But he is not a guru, and he is not an infallible. But he can bring sanity to chaos. And he's right more than he is wrong.

Hopefully, everyone knows that no one can predict the future. You make your best guess and you takes your chances.

Welcome back.

C

Rick;
This is excellent post. The most balanced I have seen from you regarding V for sometime. I don't believe V is a God.
There is only one God and his name is not Voltaire!
I still like V's posts and I consider them one more peace of data in my mental model of the markets. This have proven helpful in the past, to me at least.

Rick...your post is well done and very timely.

But, there are newsletters out there. There are so called ”Gurus” out there. Great pubs like the WSJ and IBD. Some pretty decent sites. And, an awful lot of variations on different themes. Regardless of what the vehicle – wether guru, or URL, or newsletter, or newspaper, the underlying advice I would add to yours is: NEVER, ever, rely on any single idea or voice by itself. If you do, well....

I remain: Caveat Empty(or)

couldn't agree with you more. V made some incredibly accurate predictions but he also predicted the stock would be 400 by now (1600 pre-split), and he may well have cost a lot of people a lot of money.

DiamondH,
I would like to support your comments re gurus. Jim Willie and Voltaire are entertaining and helpful at times, but to make major investments based only on their opinions can be very expensive.
This is not to disparage JW Or V - I like to read what they post and consider their OPINIONS, just as I do on all the posters on the qcom threads (even Maurice's)
But I just take all their predictions with a big grain of salt - that way I can't blame ANYONE ELSE for MY investing decisions.. I like to think that we are all grown ups here altho sometimes............ <gg>
