You can blame our Societal Evolution, [industrial revolution and the inability of the South to compete], on Lincoln if you like. It was happening with or without Him. The Puritan Work Ethic and The Yankee Ingenuitas are responsible for the success of the Northeast... The South never had a chance, because The Plantation was based on Slave Labor and white-supremacist 'ethics', rather than self-reliance.
