Brian, >Applied Materials CFO Joseph Bronson said on Wednesday how the upturn of the chip industry and the acceleration of capital spending are helping the company's performance. Bronson said the company (AMAT: news, msgs) has been gaining market share throughout this cycle with communication equipment sales adding to the growth spurt. "We cannot stand pat in our current position," he said. In the future, the company will defend its market share in part by developing new products and entering new markets. The company is set to post its quarterly earnings Feb. 15, with its profit expected to come in at 77 cents a share, according to First Call. The company is in a quiet period until the earnings are released.<
