John Q. - When you say that you don't believe the numbers, do you think that they are too high or too low? This is not a good campaign issue for Al Gore. Hence he should be applying pressure to exaggerate on the high side, keeping prices low. Again what will happen when Saddam stops all exports and demands that the sanctions be lifted. Eight years of ineffectual foreign policy in the Middle East will be exposed for what it is, again not a plus for Al even though Clinton was at the helm.

How would it benefit to exaggerate on the low side? So Gore can ride in on a white stead and knock the prices down. I don't think he or the US can pull it off this time. This would be a high risk low potential gain strategy, kind of like having O.J. put on the gloves.

I don't trust the numbers either. At year end I examined the DOE numbers, and found that the cumulative drop in production and imports was much greater than the reported drop in storage.
