Dacom, a fixed-line operator, said it has set this year's revenue target at 1 trillion won, 34.9 percent higher than last year.

``Dacom has vigorously pushed for a complete facelift to emerge as an Internet and e-commerce company and the revenue growth target this year will reflect the strategy,' Dacom president Chung Kyu-suk told reporters yesterday.

To that end, the company will invest 417 billion won, or 57 percent of the total facilities investment, into booming Internet businesses this year, Chung said.

The budget scheme will show 314.5 billion won allocated for broadband pipe infrastructure, 87.3 billion won for Dacom's online service provider Chollian and 14.9 billion won for the e-commerce projects.

``The capital needed to implement the projects will be secured through the offering of rights worth 350 billion won in the third quarter,' Chung said.

The fresh investment will be poured into the brand new building, IMT-2000 business licensing bidding, infrastructure and new venture business items.

According to Chung, the corporate vision this year will be translated into a healthy growth of its core businesses such as fixed-line telecommunications, Internet backbone and hosting, a data center and the Globalstar satellite project.

As with other telecom companies, Dacom plans to put all of its eggs in the next- generation IMT-2000 wireless communications business licensing to secure and strengthen its position in the rapidly changing market trend.

Dacom will launch a global testing service of IMT-2000 based on the wideband-CDMA around July in concert with LG Telecom, Japan Telecom, Daum Communications Corp., and Yahoo Korea, Chung said.

On the Internet front, Dacom's Chollian is expected to pull off 3 million subscribers and 195 billion won in revenue by the end of the year.

Chollian, which is widely regarded as the No. 1 online communications service provider here, attracted a total of 2.1 million subscribers last year, whopping 43 percent increase from a year earlier.

To join the mobile drive pushed by telecom operators and Internet ventures, Chollian will push for a three-pronged strategy, namely, anytime, anywhere and any access.

Bora Net, a digital subscriber line operator, will pitch in with an annualized revenue of 117 billion, or a 116 percent increase from a year earlier.

Dacom's Internet data center, established late last year, is also set to spawn a secondary base in the metropolitan area.

Chung said its e-commerce division will stage an aggressive marketing strategy and develop partnerships with domestic and foreign firms in a bid to increase its revenue as much as 86 percent to 33 billion won.
