PS Here are a few older posts about AFCI and Project Pronto I was unable to get it pasted in my previous post within the 15 minute edit window. It's all related to last mile investing in general, and specifically related to AFCI:

I will be very interested in what you find out. I think the effort was completely serious and the vendors are serious - I guess the basic infrastructure both physical and human are limited. There has been a brain drain from the telephone companies to more interesting jobs elsewhere wiredbrain.com

Re: SBC's Project Pronto and ALA

Peter and Thread- Alcatel, being another winner in the Project Pronto announcement, has just released Q4 earnings. And they don't even both to mention anything about revenues being generated from what I thought was the largest incumbent telco plan to deploy DSL to the masses. Getting kind of suspicious and slightly aggravating.

But I was unable to listen in on AFCI's CC and I'm not sure if ALA will make one available. ALA is still learning how to boost their stock price in the US markets and may not even realize quarterly CCs are key to it. They did a CC a few weeks ago, but I bet not many listened. If anyone happened to, please post what they said.

So maybe there is some Project Pronto money in these two, "industry leaders," handpicked by SBC but I may have missed it. You would think if SBC wants to get a million(!) DSL lines installed by year end, they would be writing a lot of checks. -MikeM(From Florida)
