Buck,

No need to stop posting, just because you disagree. (This isn't Yahoo.) Your points are well reasoned, and worthy of consideration.

I had to do some McData research myself. Here is a link to the ES-2500:

mcdata.com

Clearly, it is a Brocade Silkworm.

The ED-5000 Director looks totally different:

mcdata.com

I'm not sure if this is native McData or not. Although I couldn't find it on their web site, I seem to recall a picture of one of their products that was composed of three Brocade SilkWorm switches. (One of them being a redundant backup unit.) It isn't clear to me whether that product still exists, or has been replaced by something else. I haven't kept up with McData.

Since this is SI, and not Yahoo, other more knowledgeable people may jump in and fill in the gaps regarding McData for me. If this was Yahoo it is certain that we would both be taken to task for even questioning the official ANCR party line. <g>

"My point, though, was to beware McDATA, if you're even thinking about counting EMC eggs. Not that anyone was..."

<LOL> You obviously don't read the ANCR thread on Yahoo. Over there, ANCR/EMC is considered a done deal that will eventually lead to world domination. <g> As I stated earlier, I think that if there is an Ancor/EMC deal, it will be for a fairly limited portion of their business. As you say, McData would be pretty hard to unseat.
