Ted, I guess you didn't understand my joke. I was referring to the alliance between Apple, IBM, and Motorola in making PowerPC the great Pentium-killer that it was supposed to be.

As for AMD's relationship with Via, I'm not really sure what to think of it. Certainly it makes a lot of sense in an ideal sense. But then Via went ahead and bought Cyrix and IDT and announced their intentions to enter the PC processor business, at least in the low-end. That wouldn't matter if AMD wants to move out of the low-end and focus exclusively on the high-end. But AMD is pursuing a strategy that covers all markets, including both low-end and high-end. You'd think that at least their low-end plans will run smack into Via's.

<And if we know there is a risk, you don't think AMD knows?>

Of course they do. Then again, AMD's gung-ho business strategy is full of substantial risks.
