NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Intel Corp. (INTC) signed a definitive agreement to acquire Thinkit Technologies Inc., a privately held chip designer for switches and routers based in India.

Terms of the all-cash transaction weren't disclosed.

In a press release Thursday, Intel said the acquisition includes the purchase of Software & Silicon Systems Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore, India, a unit of Thinkit that designs communications silicon for Intel's Level One Communications unit.

Thinkit will become a wholly owned unit of Intel upon completion of the transaction. It will report within Intel's Network Communications Group.
