Jay,

Eli said that industrial applications for flash remain strong. The flash disks are sold to telecoms and are apparently used in routers. There was no mention of any embedded chipsets being used in cell phones. Again, MMC/SDMC may have some opportunities in the cell phone arena. There was no mention of embedded flash being a focus of the current production. CompactFlash and MMC seem to be a priority with SDMC close behind.

I think the fact that there is a $1.6 billion dollar demand from Ericsson alone indicates that the flash memory market as a whole is growing in leaps and bounds. Nokia has quarterly revenues now over $6 billion. The breadth of the market should be another deterent to competitors wanting to cash in on SanDisk's core competencies.

Again, the Toshiba JV will produce SanDisk's first "TSOP" products. When the full potential of the JV is realized we may see further diversification of the SanDisk product line.

All IMHO,

Ausdauer
