CrossKeys & Portal Deliver Integrated Solution for IP Billing and SLA Management
Alliance with Portal Software enables service providers to have an integrated solution for IP performance management, provisioning, service assurance and billing
KANATA, ONTARIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 2000-- CrossKeys Systems Corporation (NASDAQ:CKEY - news; TSE:CKY. - news) today announced an alliance agreement with Portal Software (Nasdaq: PRSF - news), a leading provider of business infrastructure software for Internet and next-generation communications services. This alliance will enable CrossKeys to extend its reach further into the competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) marketplace. Under the terms of the agreement, CrossKeys will integrate its Resolve(r) performance management software with Infranet(r), Portal's customer management and billing solution.

Performance management and billing are two key pieces of the operational support services (OSS) puzzle that service providers must solve to do business effectively. With this alliance, CrossKeys is actively targeting the data CLEC and new entrant market with a CrossKeys-Portal integrated solution.

CrossKeys and Portal are providing an integrated OSS solution for the telecommunications ``last mile' issue--how to deliver reliable, high-speed Internet access service to home users, home offices and small businesses. The rise of the various digital subscriber line (DSL) and cable technologies is one answer to the last mile problem. CrossKeys recent acquisition of US-based Dyband Inc. enhances its performance management capabilities in DSL, cable, wireless and other broadband access technologies.

``CrossKeys products have successfully proven to be excellent for managing network and service performance. This alliance can develop a solution that facilitates the reconciliation of service level and performance agreements (SLA) with the billing process. The real-time capabilities of Infranet will change the SLA process from a potential liability to a marketing differentiator,' said Jill Kyte, Vice President Strategic Alliances at Portal Software. ``We are happy to be working with CrossKeys to meet the demands of emerging technologies and the needs of new service providers.'

CrossKeys and Portal enable service providers to extend IP applications to the periphery of the network. The demand for high-speed data service (e.g., DSL, wireless or cable data service) is expected to grow from approximately two million subscribers this year to 13 million users in 2002--in the United States alone. For service providers in this marketplace, CrossKeys and Portal provide an effective OSS answer to issues around IP billing and service guarantees.

``Portal leads the way in IP billing and this alliance demonstrates our shared vision of the necessity to integrate operational support systems,' says Ian McLaren, President and Chief Executive Officer, CrossKeys. ``Portal's focus on the data and IP marketplace and the exploding markets for DSL services match CrossKeys strategy. It's a great fit.'
