Rambus is the only game in town for these processor speeds. Rambus probably owns ddr technology but, even if it did'nt, Ddr is an inferior technology and way, way late to market.

Intel, AMD to Declare Chip-Speed Breakthrough

The two largest makers of microprocessors for personal
computers will square off next week in the race to produce
the world's fastest personal-computer chip. Intel Corp.,
Santa Clara, Calif., is expected to announce Monday that it
has designed a microprocessor that runs at the speed of 1
gigahertz, or a billion cycles a second. Advanced Micro
Devices Inc., Sunnyvale, Calif., is expected to make a
similar declaration the same day. The companies plan to
make their announcements at the International Solid State
Circuits Conference in San Francisco. The fastest chips
currently made by both competitors have a speed of 800
megahertz. Microprocessor vendors have wanted to break
the 1-gigahertz barrier for years. But the new chips aren't
expected to be available in PCs for a while: Intel and AMD
so far have said only that they will begin selling them by the
end of the year.
