mishedlo, re:<what would happen if Intel were to buy Rambus tomorrow and declare RDRAM the one and only standard>

Nothing. RAMBUS doesn't sell RDRAM.

On the "standards" thing AMD would clean up if every Intel based computer had to have $1000 of RDRAM in it and so would VIA.

mishedlo,

re:Gorillas flatten Monkeys when the get too big for their britches. This should be obvious to everyone on this site, but the current emotion of being temporarily ahead in chip speed is causing WAY too much speculation on the death of Intel.

I've never seen any speculation on this thread regarding the death or demise of Intel. OTOH, I have noticed some people repeatedly putting the above spin on what is being speculated here.

Bash Rambus RMBS if you like, but what would happen if Intel were to buy Rambus tomorrow and declare RDRAM the one and only standard.

It would be a great bonanza for AMD in many ways that you could ever imagine.

Hehe, I hope Intel does buy Rambus and declare DRDRAM the only standard. And I hope it brings them as much success as the microchannel brought IBM when they declared it their only standard.

PS: Didn't the microchannel have certain advantages over other technologies of the time? I am not sure but I think I remember that it did. Yet it was overpriced and proprietary. Hmmm, kinda like DRDRAM huh?
