Mark -- Thanks for the info on JustBalls...

Can I share a couple of comments:

1. In my humble opinion, this is the kind of startup that gives Internet investing a bad name, DW's involvement be damned. I mean, what the heck's so defensible about a company that sells a fraction of what a sporting goods store sells -- just because it uses the Internet as a distribution channel? It's another "we gotta advertise like crazy to drive traffic to our site where we can sell commodity items at less than cost for five years" strategy. AMZN's the only company out there with a SHOT at making this succeed, because they have correctly repositioned themselves as the undisputed place to buy small-form-factor commodities (books, CDs, etc.). When AMZN (or some other super e-tailer) -- with its massive budget, channel, name recognition, and warehouse network -- decides to add sporting goods... Well, as DW might say: BOMP! I feel like Tom Hanks in the movie "Big" -- "I just don't get it."

2. David Wetherell, the CEO of CMGI, who led the company's angel round of investment, was simultaneously named Chairman. A brilliantly vaguely worded sentence. A reader could interpret it (easily) as saying CMGI led the angel round of investment. However, my parsing says this is NOT a CMGI investment -- it's DW's personal money going angel-fishing. Hey, no problem from my perspective, I guess. But why, if DW thinks this is such a great deal, isn't CMGI or @V investing here?

3. JustBalls.com investors include David Wetherell, CEO of CMGI; Bob Davis, CEO of Lycos;...

I wonder if they'll finally be able to put their heads together at a board meeting and get the CMGI/LCOS deal done. That one's almost overcooked at this point...
