Totem poles are essentially character derived symbolic means of assisting in the expression of primarily non character needs. For Brother Canine the traditional metaphor has been the river; but in more recent history, due no doubt the lack of physical access to 'river', Brother Canine Clan members have assumed 'fire hydrant' as the traditional phallic.

Bad Cousin Rodent clan members have always used perishable food--This appears an attempt at deriding more the traditional sects of animal clans which commonly use Potlatch as an expression of wealth. Bad Cousin Rodent member deposit totem on food, often their own, in a similar, though far less ceremonial, manner as potlatch.

As many, if not most of the Board appear to be of the Bad Cousin Rodent Clan, it might be appropriate to bring such items as overripe fruit, off eggs, and moldy cheese to the ceremonial gathering as well. Participants could then engage in the traditional 'Pelting' Ceremony which is likely to be highly appreciated as it seems Bad Cousin Rodent Clan members have been utilizing many of our properties as totem deposit grounds in lieu of more traditional food items.
