Japan's Miyazawa sees low rate policy effective curb on deflation
Tokyo--Feb 3--Japanese Finance Minister Kiichi Miyazawa said Wednesday that
the Bank of Japan's efforts in keeping interest rates near zero was having the
same effect on curbing deflation as recent debate on the adoption of "inflation
targeting". Miyazawa's remarks were made in relation to the fact that ruli ng
Japanese lawmakers have started studies on adopting monetary policy aimed at

Swiss Press: World Gold Council urges pension funds to buy gold
Zurich--Feb 2--The head of the World Gold Council says Swiss pension funds
should invest in some of the gold to be sold by the Swiss National Bank, and the
country should ensure that the gold is not simply swapped for foreign currency,
but retained as an anti-inflationary hedge, the Finanz und Wirtschaft newspaper
reported. WGC head Haruko Fukuda told the paper Wednesday that Swiss pension
funds "should hold at least 3% to 4% of their funds in gold." (Story .12213)
