My small firm has been at 65% for quite some time. Did they give youany notice or days/weeks to adjust your portfolio or was "we did this, sell-out"?

A possible alternative to having to sell stock: If you think QCOM may stall in here for a little while, then you could sell some covered calls to bring in cash to your account but this only bring in temporary relief if you think you will have to buy these back. If you think QCOM has a cap of say 250 for 2000, then sell some Jan 2000 leaps (highest strike price posible) to bring in cash.

Hope this helps a little. The situation stinks. I have bitched to my firm and even threatened to move the shares to another firm but I have been seeing these margin hikes all over the place and figured that sooner or later all firms would riase rates on QCOM margin so I stayed put.

BTW, we are inching back up to the closing price on QCOM prior to earnings release. That should provide a little resistance. 140 looks like good support right now. I am hoping for a close around 155 by the end of this week. There seems to be relevant, good news every day.

JW, Re: margin maint reqs -

No change at Waterhouse(50%), Ameritrade(regular - 30%).
Brown now shows 50%, and I know it was at 60% 2 weeks ago because I called.
