I would expect Dell to be concentrating at this time on winning bids for the more complex and expensive software-intensive systems for industry as opposed to minimal at-home systems
That was my point in an earlier post - if DELL is production limited or is having trouble getting the lower-end processor parts as some have suggested, then a bunch of 4% margin business is not the best way to use that capacity...

But the implications of both of those statements are interesting. Does this mean DELL will delay an aggressive entry into the consumer space until they have more production capacity? WebPC is being contract manufactured - does that indicate that DELL will go after lower margin business via that route, once they iron out the bugs?

And finally - edamo's comments about the visibility of a single order of this size, with the broad reach that it would provide, seem right on to me. This is not "just any order". It reinforces my opinion, based on what I have seen over the last 4 months in the way of ads and product announcements, that DELL is being pretty timid about getting into the consumer dogfight. Where will the revenue growth in 2000 come from? Hard to believe DELL can do it all just with commercial desktop growth. especially looking at the ASP erosion I think we will see this year.
