Rumors of an emergency FED meeting.

Rumor is that the rise in the 30 yr bond has spooked the fed into a worry that they have lost control of interest rates and money supply.

They are worried that money supply may be rising inspite of their trying to rein it in.

Watch gold.

> The story behind the earnings of NEM(and some others) is nothing short of amazing!

Barrick probably has the most amazing story. Cash costs have been reduced from $182 in 1997 to $160 in 1998, and I expect to see $135 for 1999 (earning are due next week)

Newmont has done good (cash cost were $187 in 1997, $183 in 1998), but their cash costs are still $175/ounce. That's a $12/ounce improvement in a period when Barrick has realized a $47 improvement.
