SiC is really tough stuff.
casil.com.br
shows that SiC is immune to the effects of nitric, hydrochloric, sulfuric and hydroflouric acids. It takes >2000 degrees centigrade to melt it- that's over 3632 degrees fahrenheit. For comparison, carbon steel starts to show a visible red glow in the daylight at around 1000 degrees F
lerc.nasa.gov
has a photo of a SiC diode functioning while glowing red hot. SiC will function electronically at over 1200 degeees fahrenheit.
