The promise of the internet is that it will allow even those Hawaiians that cannot get into good mainland schools access to the best. Better teachers should get more, the others less. Tenure will no longer be such an obstacle to performance.

As for salary, there is a vast oversupply of professors now, so there is no need for any general increase. Education is certainly one area untouched by market reform and the internet will hopefully bring prices down to an affordable level. Let's face it, higher education is in dire need of productivity improvements.
