I actually really liked that response. I understand your points and I respect your role on this thread as "observer and critic." It takes a leap of faith in the Amazon management team to believe in the story. As Jeff Bezos says "Amazon.com is a pure play on long-term decision making." Either you believe they are doing something entirely revolutionary or you don't. Its not just about books or retail in general through a new channel. A lot of the retailing concepts just haven't been done before and the valuation implies future innovation far beyond the current consensus. Amazon is part Wal-Mart, part Dell and part AOL.
