My broker at MSDW, who claims to have tried unsuccessfully to obtain shares, says that AVNX was 5x oversubscribed.

Needed - Primer on Buying in the aftermarket?
Would anyone be able to offer a short primer on buying a red hot IPO like AVNX in the aftermarket at the time it opens or shortly thereafter? Obviously you put in a limit offer and clearly you also need to evaluate the direction of the buy/sell orders, but beyond this what are the nuts and bolts of intelligently doing this?
