Earlie, i believe what he had in mind was instigating doubt about the dollar/euro pair. methinks he's shorted the buck against the euro and wanted to test the market's resolve.
of course you could be right about the bond trade, but i don't think that Soros' team wouldn't have spotted that the bond was bottoming out when even i was able to do so. :)

Earlie, I think Soros may be heavy invested in Europe - mostly Germany and Eastern Europe.

From a fundamental point of view the dollar should weaken due to the trade surplus, so may be he is also short the dollar but all that is pure speculation.

In the European WSJ there was a piece were Druckermiller participated in the run up of QCOM and SUNW. This also explains the meteoric rise of both stocks as there are so many copycats.

The article was during the first week of January 2000, but usually wen those news are in print the positions are for sale <GG>

BTW the dollar had a key reversal today. I think overseas accounts liquidated bond portfolios and moved out.
