THE FALKLANDS WILL NOT HAVE AN APRIL OIL LICENCING
ROUND

By J. Brock (FINN)

According to Director of Mineral Resources, Phyllis Rendell, there will be no oil
licencing round as there was in 1996. And, she described as highly speculative
stories in the South American press stating that there will be one as early as April.

?We have an open door bidding policy,? stated Mrs Rendell on Thursday
morning, ?It?s what companies do between licencing rounds to maintain interest in
the area. It?s very low-key and bids are received by post.?

Doubtless the subject of oil will be on the agenda when Peter Westmacott and
Susanna Currutti meeti in New Youk next Tuesday but there is no oil licencing
round to discuss. Speculation about another round has been ripe due to the
extraordinary state of the North Falkland Basin?s source rock, which is the
second best in the world. However, there still has not been an oil licencing round
in the Special Area of Co-operation to the south-west of the Falklands. That item
could also be on the agenda for next Tuesday?s meeting.

Best advice for those who invested in the North Falkland Basis is to hang on to
those stocks.
