Hi all,

I am interested in AVNX from an academic standpoint since I, like a lot of people, will be left at the gate without any shares from my soon to be ex-brokerage firm, MSDW online!

I do hold stock in Lumenon, however, and I was wondering if anyone can give me a definitive comparison of what Avanex does versus what Lumenon does. Does Avanex make components, or systems? Are they a potential competitor or customer of companies like Lumenon?

I'm sure you have all heard the story about Lumenon and the rocky road it has taken to get where it is today. Fortunately for us, we can buy all the LUMM we want at pre-IPO prices since they chose another method for going public originally, a reverse merger.

For those of you who may be interested in getting in on the ground floor (okay, maybe the second floor) of a growing company in the exploding field of photonics, check out their website at the following url:

lumenon.com

You will find some good information on the company there. Their SEC filings contain more detail, of course, and can be found at:

freeedgar.com

You can also find some research on the company at:

groomecapital.com

You must register with them but once you do you can read their reports for free. Be sure to look at the extensive report they wrote on Lumenon back in November.

Currently LUMM is trading on the pink sheets after getting a raw deal from NASDAQ and lack of timely response from the SEC to their initial filing in early November. They have already submitted 2 amendments and I understand that they are down to just one 1 remaining question from the SEC which they will respond to within a week or so. Once this last issue is resolved Lumenon will be fully reporting and their stock should be eligible for trading on the OTCBB again in 2-3 weeks.

After they get back on the OTCBB they will continue their pursuit of a full NASDAQ NMS listing, for which I believe they already qualify.

They are planning to premier their first world class pioneering photonic chip product at the OFC 2000 in early March. They are breaking ground to build a new 32,000 square foot facility that will be used manufacture the first photonic DWDM chips for mux/demux devices. This new plant will have the capability of producing 500 chips a day initially and up to 1000 chips a day with a second line. Also, there will be enough room for other manufacturing equipment if necessary to produce other devices that are currently in the planning stages.

Lumenon is still in the early stages of development but once the stock is trading on NASDAQ NMS there will be huge demand for it, IMHO.

There are some good technical discussions in the following forum if you are interested:

clubs.yahoo.com

You must join the club to post but I think you can read the posts there without joining.

Check them out or at least keep an eye on them. Lumenon is a photonic company that shows great promise, IMHO.

Those of you who were lucky enough to get in on Avanex, good luck tomorrow! I will be watching from the sidelines with regret!

Greg

You might be right. Looks like they're gonna make us pay up the ying-yang to get this on the open market. I think I'll hang around and see if I can find an opening in the early going. Otherwise, you're right, maybe a bit before passing QP might be the time to grab this one. I don't think it's going to be easy as it looks like it's got moonshot written into its program.

May I ask who your broker is that gave you the 50 shares of AVNX? I couldn't get any from my broker MSDW.

<<But SCMR recovered from that 170 level, is now over 300 >>

And that's how much? a less than 100% return.

Well, you could have bought all the YHOO and CMGI
in the world at the time you bought SCMR at 200.

It does not matter how many hundred points a stock goes
up,the precentage of return does.
