Adobe Introduces Acrobat InProduction Adobe Bridges the Gap Between Creation and Print Production With New PDF-Based Solution - Customers Can Experience Its Preflight Functionality Directly On Adobe.com SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq: ADBE - news) today announced Adobe® Acrobat® InProduction(TM) software, the award-winning solution for managing Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files through a print production workflow. InProduction extends Adobe Acrobat and consists of five tightly integrated tools for preflighting, handling color separation and conversion, specifying trim and bleed settings, and defining trapping parameters in PDF files. Adobe Acrobat InProduction, recently honored as a Hot Pick by Seybold Seminars, is more than a stand-alone product; it represents continued development of the Adobe professional publishing platform. Anchored by Adobe InDesign(TM), the publishing platform offers robust tools to help graphics professionals publish their ideas to print and the web. The platform is supported by numerous third party developers creating a wide range of valuable solutions. ''With the introduction of InProduction, Adobe offers a comprehensive family of professional publishing products for every phase of the PDF workflow, from creation to output,'' said Susan Prescott, senior director of professional publishing products, Adobe Systems Incorporated. ''InProduction is the result of customer requests for an integrated toolset. By offering a core set of tools that are seamlessly integrated, the PDF workflow is significantly improved, resulting in increased productivity, saving time and money.'' InProduction offers improved workflow productivity, increased reliability, and enhanced control in color PDF print production, which means users spend less time dealing with costly, time-consuming errors. Unlike today's piecemeal solutions and workarounds used to complete PDF workflows, InProduction software provides a robust solution for managing PDF files to final output. ''We truly believe in the importance of standardized digital prepress operations based on PDF,'' Mark Witkowski, digital workflow specialist, Sheridan Group. ''InProduction is an indispensable tool enabling us to quickly identify potential output problems with PDF files. The net effect of InProduction is more reliable production schedules, and overall better service to our customers.'' Because InProduction was designed to work within the Acrobat interface, customers are assured of a familiar user experience. InProduction includes the following tools: Preflight Preflight identifies and corrects errors before a job is sent to production. Additionally, users can create, edit, share and reuse profiles, minimizing the chance of mistakes. When a profile is used to scan a PDF file, all the preflight results are displayed on screen and in context. Certain problems such as improper font embedding can even be corrected. Separator The Separator tool offers a variety of color controls including specifying, previewing and creating color separations, mapping spot colors to process colors and spot or custom colors to specific plates. Separator displays on-screen previews of the color separations, including views of plate overlays and overprint, eliminating the need to print separations for preview. Trim/Bleed The Trim/Bleed tool provides precise control for defining imageable areas, as well as specifying or changing the media, bleed, trim or art boxes. The ability to specify art boxes is a requirement for the new PDF/X-1 standard. Color Converter Working in batch or single file mode, users can convert LAB, RGB or CMYK to CMYK using industry-standard ICC profiles. Color Converter also allows for the tagging or untagging of ICC profiles within a PDF file. Adobe in-RIP Trapping Adobe in-RIP Trapping allows users to specify page and regional zone-based trapping parameters for later output to an Adobe PostScript® 3 RIP that utilizes Adobe in-RIP Trapping. InProduction Preflight Online on Adobe.com Today, print production professionals can use InProduction Preflight Online to experience some of InProduction software's preflighting capabilities on Adobe.com. The online resource provides customers with another option to further their PDF workflow. By simply using a predefined profile or developing a custom profile, users can electronically submit files up to 10MB for preflight analysis. Preflight reports are then emailed to the customer or hosted on the web for secure viewing. This service can be used a maximum of 10 times at no charge from Adobe Systems. The preflight tool is available at preflightpdf.adobe.com.
