Born and raised in NYC, I have to agree with everything said in Yak's opening. And, having had the opportunity to both travel abroad and live down south for a few years, my (admittedly biased) opinion remains unchanged.

Washington DC may be the capital of the United States, but New York City is the capital of the world. Sports, art, business/finance, you name it, we have more of it - and of better quality - than anywhere else. I wouldn't live elsewhere for any amount of $ out there.

A proud NYer.

P.S. to Gordon - there was an earthquake on the Jersey side of the Hudson River in 1984 when the Palisades fault shifted. Lasted about 10 seconds and measured in the low 4's on the Richter scale. We certainly aren't immune to them, but, they're definitely a rarity.
