AOL failed for years and the worse it got, the higher went its great expectations. You can never know what might be bid up because that depends on lots of irrational exuberance. You only need to accurately predict how stupid people can get, but I warn you, that quantity is not bounded, only how smart they can get is bounded and monotonically decreasing.

Don't get me wrong. DSL is failing. How could that be if it is being installed all over the place? It's failing because it isn't economic. It has the economic status of POTS. Telcos must provide it to maintain appearances of being "with it", but the breakeven of amortization of installation is running away to infinity.
