hateful is democracy.


That may be true. But of course, we do not live in a democracy. We live in a Constutional Republic. We have constitutional freedoms very specifically to PREVENT the very real danger of the ability of the majority to impose their will on the minority in ways which violate basic freedoms.

Even if the majority is not wise enough to realize that protecting symbols they decide are hateful is in their long-term best interests, the authors of the Constitution WERE wise enough to know that.
