OT OT OT - Wink, Re: Politics

The SC election looms large now, for McCain and Bush. Very large. The Republican establishment here pulled out all the stops to crush Buchannon's candidacy last time, putting Dole over the top for good. They will probably try same again. McCain is, however, an entirely different kettle of fish. I may even work for his candidacy here on the local level, as I think he will stand a much better chance against Gore in a debate. Bush recent statements on oil policy I found to be vapid and panderish. Very disappointing.

Charleston has a substantial population of military, and ex-military here due to the former Navy base, and current Air Force base. I expect McCain will not have a problem here in the low country. Upstate is a different story, the "religious right" (no put downs intended) is very strong mid and upstate. This is the heart of the "Bible-Belt", after all. Also, SC is a "right to carry" state and very conservative in that regard. I'm not a gun owner, but do support the right to carry wholehardedly. But a "gun nut" I am not. Skeet shooting is as close as I come to hunting. I've not been following electoral process that much this year, as I thought Bush and Gore to be shoe-ins. Now it's a horse race so my interest is piqued. I'll pm you some local news if you like.

About the middle east, my post to George was merely a challenge to some of the things written in the posted article. Humility is a must when discussing the ME as there are sooooo many cross currents and vicous eddys to get caught in. The politics of oil are nothing if not a hall of mirrors, and I see through the glass, but darkly.
