NTAP will put an engineer on sight for a price that is not unreasonable. They will also make special arrangements for an engineer to set up office at a customer location but not be there full time.

EMC is still carrying the old mainframe vendor model to a degree, where you got a "free" engineer if you bought enough equipment. We know that engineer is not free at all.

Speaking of EMC, picked this up from soundview.
EMC (EMC) Price: $110.00 Buy F00E: $1.39 F01E: $1.79

"We have updated our model to reflect 4Q99 results and as anticipated we have
not made significant changes to our earnings estimates. We remained
concerned with the market's reaction if EMC's growth slows again in 1Q00 as
we project. Until then the stock should rise leading into a set of product
announcements which we expect in March or April. We have raised our revenue
estimate for F00 to $8.39 billion from $8.28 billion and lowered our EPS
number to $1.39 from $1.40. We remain buyers of the stock on weakness while
recognizing the volatility risks inherent in this high multiple stock."

I especially like the 1st qtr. projected slowdown! If somebody is slowing down, that means somebody is speeding up, because the storage market isn't shrinking.

PS: Are there cliff notes to the book DS recommends "Building network storage systems", My record to date before falling asleep is six pages.(tough read)
