Guy: Thanks for more good info on CREE, blue led and blue laser.

And if what yoy say is tru, then CREE amangement will in fact be an imortnat factor and how FAST the manufacture and sell products will decide their fate. But it doesnt look like they qualify to become a gorilla.

I will stay tuned to learn all about SiC.

Thanks.

ratan

Good post. People who think Cree has a lock on blue LED's or blue lasers are fooling themselves Cree doesn't need to have a lock on blue LED if it has an economic lock , ie it's blue LED are just as good as others but much cheaper. If this is because of inherent advantages of SiC, then they have a lock. I don't know for sure that the above is true. CREE is a long way from being a gorilla, but it is in a tornado, and this may be enough to make shareholders happy for quite a while...

But you should remember that Cree does not "own" SiC. Anybody can make it.

i agree...you cannot patent a crystal not even SiC. you can patent a process for making crystals.

what cree does own is a patented process for making high quality SiC crystals. anyone who wants to make SiC has to work around the IP. then they have to invent uses for SiC that cree has not already patented.
