I guess there's only one right answer on this thread, when it comes to Intel and that other company.

Seriously, developing around an Itanium class chip involves an important decision about the viability of the company developing the chip. Are they going to be around 2 - 3 - 4 years from now for things like follow-on chips, chipsets, mobos, customer support? The servers that boxmakers build from them will be flagship machines on which those boxmakers will stake their reputation. As close to a no-brainer as you can get.
