re your error message, "Netscape Smart Download cannot run"...

go to this site

home.netscape.com

and download smartdownload (that's a mouthful) in case you don't have it or it's a corrupted version.

hopefully that will get you on the right track for downloading adobe. i'm thinking maybe smartdownload isn't your default download manager. you should be presented with that option again when you install it.

Tig, I see mr mark already made a few suggestions. Have you used smartdownload successfully before? Alternately you could download through IE. Since you have Win 98, IE must have come with it.
