First Ecom.com Makes Key Management Appointments
Hong Kong based Internet credit card processing firm, First Ecom.com Inc., (NASD-OTC-BB: FECC), today announced a series of key appointments to its management team and board of directors. In a move to strengthen the relationship between First Ecom.com and its technology partner USWeb/CKS, Cody Cain, Partner, Asia Pacific, USWeb/CKS was appointed to the board of directors of First Ecom.com.
"The appointment of Mr. Cain to our board brings us closer to one of our key partners in providing high quality transaction processing capabilities to our global customer base." said Gregory Pek, president and chief executive officer of First Ecom.com.
Meanwhile the company has boosted its Hong Kong based management structure with the appointments of Chris Fox as Special Projects Director and Johnny Cheng as Project Manager. Both will be responsible for identifying, developing and managing the relationships between First Ecom.com and its strategic alliance partners.
Mr. Fox, a 17-year IT veteran, joins First Ecom.com from the Web Connection, a Hong Kong web design and online advertising agency. Prior to this he worked on broadband services for Hongkong Telecom. Mr. Fox began his career at Microsoft's headquarters in Redmond, and has since established IT-related businesses in New Zealand and the USA, including a commercial ISP and an e-commerce solutions company.
Mr. Cheng, who also brings over 17 years experience in project management to First Ecom.com, has extensive experience in designing, building and project managing major telecommunications infrastructure projects across Asia.
He has worked for multinational corporations in Silicon Valley in the telecom, aerospace and semiconductor industries including Bechtel, Lockheed - Martin and National Semiconductor.
Mr. Cheng graduated from University of California at Berkeley with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and computer science. He also holds a master's degree in telecommunications management.
Asian E-commerce Pioneer First Ecom.com Names Former Visa China GM as Director, Bank Processing Systems
Pioneering Internet credit card processing firm, First Ecom.com Inc, today announced the appointment of Raymond Chan, former executive vice president and general manager of Visa International's Greater China region, to Director, Bank Processing Systems. The appointment is in line with First Ecom.com's plan to build strategic relationships with regional banks and other financial institutions, thereby speeding the introduction of full e-commerce facilities for Asian merchants.
Chan, whose career at Visa International spans 17 years, was instrumental in creating and establishing Visa's entire Greater China region business from ground zero to a dominant market share position exceeding 70 percent in China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. In his new position at First Ecom.com, Chan will be responsible for enabling all banks to process electronic commerce transactions by outsourcing to First Ecom.com.
Integral to Mr Chan's work at First Ecom.com will be the industry relationships he has developed, including contacts with more than 100 member banks. Mr Chan's, whose successful track record has helped establish him as a leading authority on China's credit card industry, is also credited with making significant contributions to the design and architecture of the VisaNet system worldwide.
"The addition of Raymond Chan to our management team is very strategic for First Ecom.com,' said Gregory Pek, First Ecom.com president and CEO. "We know that strategic relationships with banks, especially internationally, are important to our future growth. We can enable banks to process electronic transactions with little or no capital investment, and normally within 30 days.
"We can further eliminate much of the banks' operating costs associated with systems operations, merchant application processing and other transaction processing activities. Raymond is ideally suited to presenting our message to the major banks throughout the region.'
Chan earned his M.S. degree in computer science from California State University, San Jose, and holds a B.S. in mathematics from California State University, San Francisco.
First Ecom.com also announced the appointment of Douglas H. Moore as a director. Moore currently serves as director of Credit Suisse Investment Advisory (Hong Kong) Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Credit Suisse. A Hong Kong resident for more than 10 years, Moore previously practiced international tax law with the Hong Kong office of McMillan Binch, a major Canadian law firm before joining Credit Suisse in 1994.
First Ecom.com (NASD OTC BB: FECC), a global leader in Internet payment processing services, today announced the appointment of Choong Wan Lee, former president and CEO of Visa International Korea, to the position of country manager, Korea for First Ecom.com.
Lee's appointment as Korea Country Manager signals a move by First Ecom.com to expand its payment processing services beyond Hong Kong into the Korean market. Based in Korea, Lee will be responsible for establishing and growing First Ecom.com's Internet payment processing business within Korea's banking community. Lee is the second Visa executive to join First Ecom.com this year, reporting to Raymond Chan, who joined First Ecom.com from Visa Asia earlier this year.
During his eight-year tenure as Visa Korea's first president and CEO, Lee played a pivotal role in Visa's phenomenal growth in Korea, having successfully created and developed the company's business from almost zero to a market leadership position. Under Lee's leadership, Visa Korea's member banks grew by 256 percent, while the number of Visa cards issued grew by 860 percent to 13.8 million. At the same time, Visa card usage volume also soared by 670 percent to US$20 billion at end of 1997, making Korea Visa's fastest growing operation in Asia Pacific.
"Lee will play a strategic role in First Ecom's growth in Korea," said Gregory Pek, president and CEO of First Ecom.com. "His outstanding track record at Visa Korea combined with his banking industry knowledge and close relationships with local banks will greatly accelerate First Ecom's business development efforts and deployment of our proprietary Internet payment processing system to Korean banks."
A native Korean, Lee earned his MBA degree from the prestigious Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, and a BA in Economics from Yonsei University in Seoul. |
