TRFM says on p136 that there are no gorillas in the services sector. It should be possible for a service provider to be a King if it was in the right place at the right time. I suspect the reign would be short since the leader would likely not have the power to prevent the market from splintering.
I like CREE as a speculation , but I have no opinion on EXDS.

I thought anything could be a royalty play; but only proprietary architecture, IPR, or a "lock" could be simian in nature.

You thought right. You've probably seen that our friend UpNorth acknowledged that his compass got out of whack for a moment. The rumor is that he walked into a magnetic field that overwhelmed his ability to determine right from left, much less right from wrong. :)
