How can you admit that God Hardened Pharoah
to do evil and yet believe God is trying to save everyone ???

Greetings Steve, and all who love the Lord Jesus Christ.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I can see Steve that you and I are miles apart in what we believe, that is evident as we pursue our discussion.May I ask you a question, Have you not read the Westminster Statement of Faith that Brian posted to Barney, Post # 29729, revealing Gods Eternal Degree. You can't be in agreement with it by what you are saying to me.

Anyway, let us proceed.

You asked what I believe this scripture says;

<< And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.
4 But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments. >>

Steve please keep in mind the following;
Sovereignity of God,
Romans Chapter 9, where God decides who He will show mercy and who He will harden.

This " hardening " of Pharaoh's heart was the result of Gods foreknowledge.
Pharaoh who acted cruelly toward Gods people, received the righteous judgements of God. Even with all the signs and wonders God displayed it made no difference to him.
You see Steve, it is the same " Sun " that hardens the " clay " or softens the " wax".
Pharaoh made these choices in his natural condition and suffered the consequences, finally by being destroyed forever when he and his army were drowned in the Sea. Please read all of Exodus in context of what is being said when considering this " hardening " of Pharaoh' heart.

Exodus 8:15,

Ex 8:15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.

We see here and in other places that this " hardening " was the result of choices made by Pharaoh " himself "when God temporarily removed his judgements.

Albert Barnes says something noteworthy;

" Calamities which do not subdue the heart harden it. "

How well that describes Pharaoh.

This " hardening " that you believe God did to Pharaoh was as I said earlier, the natural result of the choices Pharaoh made against Gods people and the subsequent judgements of God against Him He was just doing what his " nature " called for him to do. He finally received Justice from God.

I could say much more but we would get of on different tangents.

May God Himself show you Steve, that in your " flesh " ( your natural life) NOTHING GOOD dwells. I believe you need to see that truth more than anything else. Sort of reminds me about Isaiah6:1-5. Please read Steve.

Isaiah was a great man of God, but when he finally saw the Glory of God, the greatest thing he ever learned was that " he saw his true condition ".

Take care Steve, Talk with you later.

In Christ, Robert

Greetings Steve and all who love the Lord Jesus Christ.

I'll respond to your last post to me Steve and go from there.

You said,

Explain this scripture then;

<< Ex 7:3 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.
4 But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.
5 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them. >>.

Indeed Pharaoh's heart was hardened by God but please note that Pharaoh hardened his own heart also according to ;

Ex.8:15, Ex.8:19, Ex.8:32, Ex.9:34.

According to Romans 9:14-24,

God alone decides who He will have mercy upon, totally independent of man.
Please pay special attention to verse 16 as mans will does not yet come into play.

Verse 17 says God raised Pharaoh up, to display His power and Glory. Gods foreknowledge knew he would be a vessel of wrath".

John 1:12-13 mirrors the same message concerning the will of man, it had nothing to do initially with his Salvation. It was wholly brought into being by Almighty God.

" John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. ".

Romans 7:18;

" For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing:

Romans 8:8;

" Ro 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. "

So Steve for you to say that we in our flesh can make some " good " decision you are saying that Gods Word is not true.

Psalm 14: 1-2;

" Ps 14:2 The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.
3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. "

We must realize that mankind outside of Christ is operating solely under the dominion of the " flesh ", no matter how good the intentions or works may appear to be.
He may devise countless notable works for God but if they do not ORIGINATE with God they are then works of the " Flesh " and hostile to Almighty God.

That is the primary reason God has made us " now " partakers of the Divine Nature that we may serve and worship Him out from this new nature we have received.

I'll close now as this is quite lengthy. Please Steve consider what Gods word decrees of our flesh..........it must die ,it cannot be changed.

Take care and God Bless. In Christ, Robert

Greetings Steve,

Further to my last post;

I believe before the Fall, Adam had a sovereign free will, that is he had the ability to choose good and evil. After the Fall, this " will " is under the dominion and oppression of Satan.

Consider the Old Covenant people of God when Moses went up Mount Sinai,

Ex. 20:18-19;

Ex 20:18-19 And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.
19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.

God displays His awesome power and Glory.

Now in the last days He displays His nature again, but in absolute love, in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ.
What was the result;

Acts 3:14-15;

Ac 3:14 But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;
15 And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.

How you can think that we can make some sort of " good " decision in our flesh is really beyond me. With brotherly respect Steve, you need to see by the working of the Holy Spirit your " true condition of your flesh ". When that occurrs we will be of the same mind.

Take care and God grant you to see the total depravity of what we have inherited from Adam.

In Christ, Robert
