Barry - <I'm being installed on DSL this coming Monday, but the best I can hope for, because I'm 16,300' from the phone co., @ 69/mo is 144k but that's better that the 36.8-44.4k I've been on. My cost will be the same as now paying because, I'm dropping two isp's and a dedicated phone line.>

If you're not incurring any more cost, you should like this service better than 44k dial-up. Especially if this is the only broadband option you have.

I admit it would be nice if you could get faster line speed, but it is still nice walking up to your computer any ol' time, move the mouse, and start going.

I started out at 264, and was upgraded to 768, for less cost per month. I pay 30 for DSL (GTE) and 18 for ISP.

Barry, limited amount I've learned about DSL installers so far, yes, Covad and Northpoint are competitors. Rythms and Net Connections are two more. They are in the category of damn the profits, grow revenue at all cost stage, at least for now. Not typically my type but I thought I'd gamble a little.

I'll be VERY happy if we're near 150 by the end of the year
but any more will be quite acceptable too. I think the 50+ PE is much more realistic but it does feel heady for one used to
much lower climes. I can get used to it.

Should get used to it because everyone is calling for techs to lead the way, all year and indefinitely. Also, everyone showing up on TV with an opinion is calling Intel undervalued, still. One thing about the PE: it looks higher than it might because 3Q99 had a charge that brought official earnings down to .42 from .53. Was it the Level 2 buy, I forget? Also, SI shows Q4 as .61. What happened to the .69? Consensus for 2000 is 2.90, so forward looking P/E is a very down to earth 36.

Hope you really enjoy the DSL.

Tony

Barry,

All time high closes are good things <g>. It seems like the only sector that is going up is techs; drugs, banks, retailers, transports, others seem to be well off their highs. This is a strong cyclical period for tech stocks, but sooner or later this has to broaden out to the rest of the market. Surprising it hasn't, because earnings are coming in very good.

Cable, price wise, seems to be the best deal. I am continually surprised by how many people in this area have had cable access available for well over a year, and don't take advantage of it. I suspect thats part of the problem with building the infrastructure, if less than one in five homes participate, the system upgrade becomes expensive for the ROI. No one marketed DSL to this area that I am aware of.

I don't see any negatives for Intel going forward, but you know how that goes, we've been surprised before. Tony pointed out in a subsequent note that Intel is only selling at 36 times 2000 estimates of 2.90, and some analysts are saying 3.00 is conservative. Yes, I could easily see $150 by year end.

Good luck with your DSL connection on Monday.

John
