Thanks Sue - there seems to be some confusion as to who makes Dell's notebooks and exactly what constitutes 'make'.

From what I have gathered in spending several hours scanning the web, indeed Compal does manufacture some models for both Dell and Quantex, and even has its own US brand, Sceptre. Not all, however, apparently, perhaps maybe but.

In tracking my notebook's Fed Ex delivery, I was fascinated to note that the point of embarkation was in Taiwan.

Confusing. I've submitted an info request to Crucial Memory; I'll let you know what I figure out.
